Test Fixture, Shielding Effectiveness | EM-2108 | 1.5 GHz – 10 GHz
Test Fixture, Shielding Effectiveness
EM-2108 | 1.5 GHz – 10 GHz
The EM-2108 is a standard test fixture for evaluation of the electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (SE) of planar materials. The fixture is a section of coaxial transmission line broken to allow the insertion of planar test materials. Although ASTM D4935-10 is currently limited to an upper frequency of 1.5 GHz, the EM-2108 meets and complies fully with both the impedance and SE requirements called out in ASTM test method D4935-10 up to 10 GHz. These results are shown in Figures 1 & 2. The measured data relates to the shielding effectiveness due to a plane wave (far field EM wave) from which near field values for magnetic and electric fields may be inferred.
The EM-2108 is provided with a reference standard test specimen, a load standard test specimen, and a dynamic range specimen. Dynamic range of greater than 80 dB is achievable, although the cables and other test system components usually establish the limiting factors.

Antenna, Omni-Directional Wideband
EM-6865 | 2 GHz – 18 GHz
The EM-6865 Omni-Directional Wideband Antenna is capable of operating as either a transmitting or receiving antenna over the 2 to 18 GHz frequency range.
The EM-6865 consists of two-brass conical elements connected point-topoint to form a hourglass shaped antenna element. The center conductor of a rigid coaxial cable is connected to the upper cone, while the shield is connected to the lower cone. The cable connects to a Type “N” (female) connector fastened to a phenolic base plate.
A 25.4 cm (10”) support rod provides a means for mounting the antenna to any tripod with a 1/4-20 mount.

Antenna, Omni-Directional Wideband | EM-6860 | 60 MHz – 1GHz
Antenna, Omni-Directional Wideband
EM-6860 | 60 MHz – 1GHz
The EM-6860 Omni Wideband Antenna is a vertically polarized broadband antenna designed to operate from 60 MHz to 1 GHz and is intended for Spectrum monitoring. The antenna utilizes a passive filter plus an amplifier circuit for increased gain over the entire bandwidth.
The antenna amplifier has a minimum gain of 9.5 dB and uses a coaxial transfer switch to connect power to the amplifier. The switch also switches the signal either through the RF amplifier or, when the input power is removed, the normally closed contacts on the switch connect the signal directly to the output connector. The “fail safe” feature allows the antenna circuitry to provide passive reception in a power off condition. An eleven-element high pass filter (cutoff frequency = 60 MHz) yields 60 dB rejection at 40 MHz.
The EM-6860 is constructed of precision machine aluminum with a G-10 fiberglass cylindrical housing.

Antenna, Omni Directional Wideband | EM-6855 | 4.5 GHz – 40 GHz
Antenna, Omni Directional Wideband
EM-6855 | 4.5 GHz – 40 GHz
The EM-6855 Omni-Directional Wideband Antenna is capable of operating as either a transmitting or receiving antenna over the 4.5 to 40 GHz frequency range.
An omni-directional antenna is an antenna which radiates power (or intercepts electromagnetic fields) uniformly in one plane, with a directive pattern shape in a perpendicular plane. The EM- 6855 omni-directional antenna is a vertically polarized antenna, and exhibits a 360 degree pattern in the horizontal plane.
Directivity and gain are directly related in antennas. The directivity of an antenna is a statement of how the of RF energy is focused. An omni-directional antenna and a directional antenna such as a horn, having the same amount of RF energy at the connector yield different fields. From a transmission point of view, the energy radiated by the omni directional antenna is distributed over a large area, whereas the same energy is concentrated into a smaller area by the directional antenna.
The signal strength measured at a given distance from an omni -directional antenna versus that measured in the beam of a directional antenna is lower. This lower signal level corresponds to the lower gains exhibited by omnidirectional antennas.
The EM-6855 antenna is enclosed in a weather resistant radome. A 25.4 cm (10”) support rod provides a means for mounting the antenna to the ElectroMetrics Model EM-6134 Tripod. A threaded ¼ – 20 female connector is located at the end of the rod.

Antenna, Loop
EM-6879 | 10 kHz – 30 MHz
The EM-6879 Loop Antenna is used for magnetic field measurements over the frequency range of 10 kHz to 30 MHz. The EM-6879 is designed for use with any 50 ohm Receiver System. The antenna has a balanced Faraday shield that reduces its response to electric fields to a vanishingly small amount so that it can produce a practically pure magnetic field response.
Applications
The EM-6879 is suited for use in compliance testing to the various revisions of MIL-STD- 461, CISPR standards, plus other government and commercial standards. The antenna is designed to work into a 50-ohm system and its calibration chart is based on this use. The calibration chart gives values of antenna factor for finding magnetic field strength (H). To find the field strength (H) in dB (uA/m), add the factor from the scale in dB(S/m) to the measured two-terminal input voltage obtained by the receiver in dB(uV).
The EM-6879 Loop Antenna is, electrically, a magnetic dipole and thus having a dipole pattern must be oriented properly for best sensitivity.

Antenna, Loop
EM-6874 | 20 Hz – 30 MHz
The EM-6874 Loop antenna is nominally used 20 Hz to 30 MHz and is designed for uncalibrated substitution measurements of shielding effectiveness as described by MILSTD-285, IEEE STD 299, and NSA-65-6.
The antenna has a radiating element consisting of a single turn loop 0.3 meter in diameter, making the antenna capable of operating at very high loop currents without damage. In addition, a Type N connector is used which also permits high input levels to be applied to the antenna.
Although uncalibrated, the field strength generated is approximately 2.7 mA/meter/ Ampere. The antenna impedance may be approximated by series combination of a 600 nH and a resistance less than 1 ohm. Its signal handling capability is on the order of 1 kV peak and 40 Amperes RMS.

Antenna, Omni-Directional Wideband Discone | EM-6105 | 10 kHz – 2 GHz
Antenna, Omni-Directional Wideband Discone
EM-6105 | 10 kHz – 2 GHz
The EM-6105 is a broad band collinear array allowing very wide Omni-Directional frequency coverage in a single package. Below approximately 100 MHz, the EM-6105 acts as an active vertical rod which offers 10 to 12 dB more signal handling capability than competitive antennas (overload field strength: 2 V/meter) which greatly reduces intermodulation generated signals in a typical read world RF environment. In the congested spectrum above 100 MHz the antenna is passive and contributes no intermodulation products so the overload point is determined solely by the receiving instrument. This immunity to overload can often make the difference between useful signal output and an indecipherable jumble of spurious products and is accomplished without compromising sensitivity. The antenna collapses for convenient storage and transport. The EM-6105 is supplied with an EM-6106 Battery Pack.

Antenna, Tunable Dipole Set
EM-6924 | 28 MHz – 1GHz
The EM-6924 tuned dipole set is the reference antenna for FCC and VDE measurements in the 28-1000 MHz range. Results from other linearly polarized antennas in the certifications process must be correlated with the results obtained from a tuned dipole.
Virtually identical to the actual antennas used by the FCC, the EM-6924 dipole set is ideal for EMI testing and site attenuation measurements in accordance with both FCC part 15 and 18, as well as ANSI C63.4, VDE 0871 and 0875, and other EMI specifications.

Antenna, Biconica-log | EM-6917C-1 | 26 MHz – 1 GHz
Antenna, Biconica-log
EM-6917C-1 | 26 MHz – 1 GHz
The EM-6917C-1, a hybrid combination of the industry standard biconical and log periodic antennas, delivers an unmatched combination of frequency coverage and high power handling capability. Featuring exceptionally broad frequency coverage of 26 MHz to 1 GHz, the EM-6917C-1 eliminates the need for adjustments or switching antennas in most test applications up to 1 GHz, and it does so without compromising power handling capability for transmit applications.
The EM-6917C-1 can be operated as either a transmitting or receiving antenna over its entire frequency range. This may be the only antenna you need to perform many commercial EMI emissions tests, and its integral balun minimizes the effect of cable placement on measurements seen with some other antennas. In additional it’s transmit capability allows generation of the necessary fields for IEC 1000-4-3 (IEC 801.3) radiated immunity testing from 80 MHz to 1 GHz.

EM-6913 | High Field Biconical Antenna | 20 MHz – 300 MHz
Antenna, High Field Biconical
EM-6913 | 20 MHz – 300 MHz
The Electro-Metrics EM-6913 can be used for generating high intensity fields as required for EMC immunity testing 20 MHz to 300 MHz.
The broadband frequency characteristics of the balun provide an optimum impedance match to the biconical elements over more than a decade of frequencies. The heavy-duty construction of the bifilar wound balun helps prevent overload or breakdown under high power operation. The balun enclosure protects the user from accidental burns while allowing for cooling through natural convection.

EM-6912A | Biconical Antenna | 30 Mhz – 300 MHz
Biconical Antenna
EM-6912A | 30 Mhz – 300 MHz
A balun, feedline, and element cage give the Electro-Metrics EM-6912A response curves that are almost linear, making it ideal for swept measurements. An added benefit is that the EM-6912A has an improved BALUN design, which makes it insensitive to changes of orientation while vertically polarized. Readings obtained will be the same no matter which element is closest to the ground plane, eliminating a potential source of measurement error.
Applications
The EM-6912A Biconical Antenna operates over the 30-300 MHz frequency range. The antenna is ideally suited for use in FCC, SAE, and MIL- STD radiated emissions testing. The EM-6912A broadband frequency capability eliminates the need for band switching, element extension, or external tuning when used for electromagnetic ambient surveys or spectrum signature measurements. The compact size of the EM- 6912A is advantageous for use in anechoic chambers and shielded enclosures.
